The Ministerial Advisory Council on Public Libraries’ (2012) evaluation of the challenges facing public libraries recognises their important position within the community, but is deeply hindered by a fear of change and a pessimistic pragmatism.
In an increasingly crowded technological marketplace, it is crucial that we understand what makes individuals and groups more likely to choose one technology over another. Saldanha and Krishnan (2012) provide a compelling analysis into the adoption of Web 2.0 technologies at an organisation-level. Their study is limited by their methodology and data, but does provide an excellent foundation for future research in the area.
The effective implementation of new technological systems holds much potential for supporting health systems around the world. Lewis, Hodge, Gamage and Whittaker (2011) present a thoughtful analysis of the factors contributing to the success of e-health systems, with particular reference to the Pacific islands and territories. Yet they fall into the trap of perpetuating some of the misconceptions they seek to avoid, thus reducing the effectiveness of their argument.
"Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic."
- Arthur C. Clarke.
